FAQs

  • We’re busy readying production, shipping Spring 2025. We will keep you up to date along the way so you know where your bivvy bag/s are up to.

When your order is ready, we'll send you an email with tracking details so you can follow its journey to you.

  • We will set expectations on shipping and delivery times, and keep you updated along the way.

While we don’t offer returns on unwanted goods, we do guarantee manufacturing defects. This reflects our commitment that these bivvy bags are designed to delight, and built to last.

If you don’t love your bivvy, get it touch and let us know what we could do better. In the spirit of companionship, we welcome your feedback, always.

As a small business we cannot cover the cost of any customs, clearance or duties fees and so these must be paid for by the customer.

  • No suitable combination of non-synthetic material and coating can be fully waterproof, yet we believe this is to our benefit.

For our experience – when we sleep, our bodies breathe. This creates condensation, a type of humidity. A bivvy bag’s ability to wick this moisture away determines how comfortable we are. A fully waterproof bag struggles with this, meaning you wake up wetter overall (have you noticed how a “waterproof” jacket gets sticky inside when rained on?)

For our environment – Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coatings, popular on almost all modern outdoor gear (bivvy bags, tents, waterproof jackets, etc..) contain harmful chemicals that release into the environment during manufacturing and disposal, leading to widespread contamination. Fully waterproof products effectively never break down, which means they most likely end up in landfill with no natural decomposition.

We are with nature, not against it.

  • The bivvy bags weigh in at approximately 1kg (2.2 lb) for the human and 400g (0.9 lb) for the companion. For context, this is about the same weight as a large bath towel, or small hand towel, respectively. Sure, this is more than the plastic bivvy bags, but it’s impossible to compare on experience.

The weight comes from the cotton and its dry-wax finish, as well as the robust brass hardware – including YKK metal zippers, snaps, and cord stops. The engineering of our products is thoughtful and every piece is purposeful. We won’t compromise on quality but when you get ahold of yours, we trust you’ll agree the weight is worth the wait!

  • Delicious. Tactile – totally touchable. Like nothing you’ve seen in the bivvy bag world. Or in the broader camping landscape as a whole, for that matter. Doesn’t slip-slide around on the ground. It’s authentically natural, just the right weight, and wears well.

We’re putting our material to work, checking it lives up to what we believe in. Head over to our Instagram to see some of the weird and wonderful ways we’re testing it @westcoastcompanion

  • We’ll include the details closer to delivery. For now, the mindset — in the same way you would care for any item of longevity, a little love goes a long way. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

The bivvy bag wears well, gets better with age, and can be re-proofed and repaired as needed. We’re here to guide you through this process, sharing valuable skills in self-sufficiency that you might choose to pass on to others, in service of generations to come.

To lighten your load and the impact on our world, it’s good to wash as little as you can.

Excited by our brand but not ready to commit?

We get it, these things take time. Any contributions to making this a whole buddy-bivvy-better in future?
