Why we’re here

We camp wild in celebration of life – it’s exciting, expansive, and enlivening. Around the fire, under the stars, is where we feel most free.

This season, we’ve slept over 100 nights in a bivouac or “bivvy bag”. Walking 3+ million steps, we prioritise easeful practicality above all else. Embracing the simplicity of self-sufficiency, returning to our roots.

In all our adventures, we can’t believe what we see time and again – that the products designed to get us outdoors act in paradox to this pursuit. The market is saturated by synthetic materials – slippery, scritchy, steamy, and super-flammable (or coated in nasty counter-chemicals). Surely there’s a way to camp wild without these compromises?

Here, our closing sunset on the Outer Hebrides, envisioning a better bivvy bag…

We, and our world, deserve something more thoughtful. So we got to work. On an inherited vintage Singer sewing machine, the companion component came first. Our Chief Companion Officer was now the custodian of a natural cocoon, to replace the ripped-up old hand-me-down cut-in-half sleeping bag she had been snoozin’ in. Happy hound.

Bivvy envy got us thinking – we humans would enjoy this too. The zipper on hers perfectly connected to the zipper on ours.

The buddy bivvy was born.

A lifetime obsession of understanding how material things are made, combined with a reverence for decent hardware, and the blessing of a can’t-believe-it-feels-this-good fabric brought our vision to life.

From pen to paper, pattern to prototype, patent to production. We have been busy advancing our understanding, validating the integrity of our innovations, mastering materials; taking familiar fabrics and elevating them, centred around curiosity and a commitment to delivering the very best a bivvy bag can be.

We count our lucky stars that this path is our pursuit. It’s what we were made to do – to empower you to get outdoors too.
